Please pick-up your 2017 Income Tax Receipts for parish donations as well as the Priests’ Benevolent Fund. Receipts are available at the Church Entrances. As announced previously, the 2017 books closed on December 29. Any donations received December 30-31 have been credited to your 2018 total.

On Ash Wednesday, February 14, Development and Peace - Caritas Canada will launch its annual Share Lent campaign. This year's campaign, Together for Peace, highlights the importance of dialogue in peace building and invites us to promote dialogue as the primary way to build peace. Dialogue between you and me and between peoples. Intergenerational, intercommunal and interreligious dialogue. Dialogue for forgiveness, reconciliation, negotiation, and to live more harmoniously. Over the next four weeks, you will hear about partner organizations that are working to build peace in their corner of the world.

St. Joachim’s CWL is organizing an ongoing collection of postage stamps in support of Development and Peace. A box will be placed at the Church Entrance for parishioners to drop off their postage stamps. Encourage your friends and family to participate!

When writing a cheque for Special Collection donations during the year (e.g. Share Lent, Catholic Family Services, etc.), please issue the cheque to your respective Parish. In turn, one cheque from each Parish will be issued to the Diocese or organization for the total amount collected. Thank you.

Thank you for your support of the Capital Projects Fund at Our Lady of the Assumption via the envelope in your offering set the first Sunday of each month. Donations made to this fund will be used primarily for paving, roofing and painting projects which will require significant expenditures in the coming year.

In 2018, Our Lady of the Assumption Parish will establish a Cemetery Fund. The Property & Finance Committee seeks volunteers to serve on a Cemetery Committee. Members to oversee the upkeep, policies and procedures of our current cemetery and discuss plans for future expansion. If interested in serving on this committee, please contact Elaine.

Funerals & Weekday Masses: When a funeral is scheduled on a weekday on which there is mass, only the mass at the Church where the funeral is being held will be cancelled.

Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Altar Server Program: Serving at the Altar is a privileged way to draw closer to Jesus. It is a significant role in the celebration of the mass and helps young people learn the importance of both commitment and of service to others. The Parish has recently revitalized its Altar Server Program and invites students in grades 3 or higher and their families to participate in this ministry. Money placed in the bucket, at Our Lady of the Assumption, by children each week is submitted to the Holy Childhood Association at year’s end. Under its banner of children helping children, monies raised are directed towards mission countries – building of schools, provision of health and nutrition programs and medications, school fees, and teaching/learning resources.

Community Service Bursary: Grade 11 & 12 students who volunteer as Catechists or Children’s Liturgy Leaders are eligible to receive a bursary from the Province. The Bursary is calculated at a rate of $5/hour. Students are required to volunteer a minimum of 30 hours or up to a maximum of 100 hours. For further details, visit www.studentloan.pe.ca

If school is delayed or cancelled due to inclement weather, the weekday mass at St. Joachim’s will be cancelled that day. Weekday masses at Assumption will be held as scheduled. Weekend mass cancellations within the Unit will be communicated to parishioners via internet, radio, e-mail and/or telephone. We will make every effort to inform parishioners of any cancellations in a timely manner.
